Congratulations! You’ve chosen the most photogenic backdrop for your wedding or portrait session. Now, let’s make sure you look absolutely incredible in it. What you wear plays a huge role in how you feel and how your photos turn out, especially under the bright, glorious sun of South Italy.

As your photographer, I’m here for more than just clicking the shutter; I want to help you look your absolute best. Here are my top 10 tips on what to wear to ensure you shine in your South Italy photos.

**1. Prioritise Comfort & Confidence.

This is rule number one. If you’re tugging at a too-tight dress or wincing in painful shoes, it will show in your face and posture. Choose outfits that make you feel like the best, most authentic version of yourself. Confidence is the most beautiful thing you can wear.

**2. Embrace Light, Breathable Fabrics.

South Italy is warm for much of the year. Opt for natural fabrics like linen, cotton, silk, or chiffon. They flow beautifully, move with the breeze, and look effortlessly elegant. They also breathe, keeping you cool and comfortable. Avoid heavy satins or synthetics that can look sweaty and limp in the heat.

**3. Consider the Colour Palette.

Think about your surroundings and choose colours that complement, rather than clash.

  • Classic & Timeless: White, ivory, cream, and light grey look stunning against almost any backdrop—white towns, green olive groves, blue sea.

  • Earthy & Rustic: Sage green, terracotta, mustard yellow, and soft brown blend beautifully with Puglian countryside and stone.

  • Bold & Joyful: A pop of deep blue, coral, or emerald can look fantastic, especially in more urban Baroque settings like Lecce.

  • Tip: Avoid neon colours, as they can cast unflattering coloured light (colour cast) onto your skin.

**4. Mind the Patterns.

Small, tight patterns (like tiny checks or narrow stripes) can create a strange, vibrating effect called moiré in photos. Solid colours photograph most reliably. If you love patterns, choose larger, bolder prints (like a big floral or a wide stripe) to avoid this technical issue.

**5. Shoes Are Everything (And Have a Backup!).

  • For Her: Stilettos sink into grass and cobblestones. Consider wedges, block heels, or even elegant flats. Bring a second pair of “walking shoes” (pretty sandals or sneakers) to move between locations. Your feet will thank you, and your joyful stride will show.

  • For Him: Break in your dress shoes beforehand! Also, consider the terrain—suede soles can be slippery on stone.

**6. Accessorise Thoughtfully.

Accessories add personality but can also be practical.

  • Hats & Veils: A wide-brimmed hat is stylish and provides shade, but be mindful it can cast a dark shadow on your face. We’ll work with it! A veil catching the breeze is pure magic.

  • Jewellery: Choose pieces that are meaningful but not overly distracting. They become beautiful detail shots.

  • Pockets (For Him & Her!): A lifesaver for phones, lip balm, or a tissue.

**7. The Groom & Groomsmen Matter Too.

A well-fitted suit is key. Consider the climate: linen or lightweight wool blends are ideal. Think about ditching the jacket for part of the session for a more relaxed look. Coordinating, not matching perfectly, often looks best for the wedding party.

**8. Plan for a “Second Look” or Outfit Change.

This isn’t just for the ceremony! Having a second, simpler outfit (like a chic jumpsuit, a flowy dress, or smart casual wear) for your portrait session or the reception can give you a different vibe and more variety in your photos. It’s especially fun for a “day after” shoot.

**9. Grooming & Makeup for the Climate.

  • Makeup: Opt for a long-wearing, matte, or natural finish. Heavy foundations can melt. Waterproof mascara is a must! A talented makeup artist who understands destination weddings is worth their weight in gold.

  • Hair: Consider styles that can handle a bit of wind and humidity. Loose, romantic styles often work better than super-tight updos in the coastal breeze.

  • Skin: Start moisturising and drinking plenty of water well before you travel. Healthy, hydrated skin glows.

**10. Do an “Outfit Test” & Move in It.

Once you have your outfits, put everything on—shoes, underwear, accessories. Walk, sit, dance, hug. Can you move freely? Do you feel amazing? Take a few phone photos in different lighting. This dry run prevents day-of surprises.

Bonus: Trust Your Photographer’s Guidance.

We’ve done this before! If I suggest moving to a shaded spot to avoid squinting, or adjusting your dress for the best drape, it’s because I know how it will translate through the lens. Our goal is the same: to create stunning, natural images of you at your most joyful and comfortable.

Your South Italy wedding photos are an heirloom. By choosing your attire with these tips in mind, you’re not just picking clothes; you’re curating the visual style of your memories. And in a place this beautiful, that’s a wonderful thing to do.

Can’t wait to see what you choose!
